CIF Boys Soccer Wild Card Round: Vista Murrieta High School Loses To Glendale High School in Overtime – The Broncos Eliminated From Their First Ever CIF Boys Soccer Appearance

The Vista Murrieta Broncos made their first appearance in the CIF Southern Section Boys Soccer Championship Wednesday and almost advanced to play Corona de Mar. Tied 2–2 at the end of regulation play, Glendale scored the go-ahead point in the ten minute overtime period to win and advance to the 1st Round CIF Boys Soccer Championship.

Vista Murrieta got on the scoreboard first in the first half. The Broncos’ first goal came when Cullen Boyd set Aaron Ruth up for his first goal with a great header. Vista Murrieta scored again in the second half to tie the game when Andrew Gomez took a ball passed by the Glendale goal and set Ruth up with a great cross which Ruth hit in on the volley for his second goal of the game.

“I’ve been on Varsity since my freshman year and have played with Andrew Gomez and Jonny Taylor for four years,” said Ruth, “It feels great to finally make it to CIF with those guys. I loved playing with all the seniors and I thought we left it all out on that field, regardless of the outcome. We came together as a family and made Vista history and we are all very proud of that.”
