CIF State Playoff round up

Temescal Canyon sophomore Cleveland Belton is a State Wrestling Champion after defeating Sidney Flores of La Puente’s Bishop Amat  Saturday, March 4, in the 120-pound finals at the CIF State Boys’ Wrestling Championships. The 8-3 win at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield capped a 6-0 State run and a 42-2 season for Belton, who became the first State Titlist in Titans history and the first area wrestler to win a State Title since 2013.

Three local high school soccer teams are headed to the CIF-State Regional Soccer Championships. Brackets were announced this past Sunday and include the Division 5 boys’ winners, Citrus Hill (Perris) and girls’ semifinalists, Temecula Valley and Vista Murrieta (Division 2). Citrus Hill will be home this week to face Santee, Temecula Valley will be away at San Marcos (No. 3) and Vista Murrieta will take on Chula Vista’s Eastlake High School.

Three local basketball teams were also slotted to advance to the CIF-State Regional playoffs and will include the Vista Murrieta boys’ (No. 9 seed), who will travel to Santa Fe Christian, Temecula’s Rancho Christian (No. 16 seed), who will open on the road at Top-Seeded Ontario Colony High School and on the girls’ courts, Lakeside (No.10 seed) will face off against Fairmont Prep.
