Corona Centennial pulled out a 30-28 victory in the rain, during Friday nights Inland Division championship game, which was televised on Fox Sports West. Centennial’s defense came through in the clutch, producing four turnovers when the Broncos had the ball inside the 15-yard line.
The first half ended in a 14-14 tie, but it was more about the missed scoring opportunities for Vista Murrieta that really had the VMHS home crowd begging for the Broncos to come from behind and fight their way back to a victory for the second straight year.
The Huskies, Bezhawn Hill, had an interception at the nine-yard line and Marquis Perkins had an interception at the goal line to stop Vista Murrieta drives. The Broncos missed an 18-yard field-goal attempt and then, in the third quarter, Corona Centennial’s Jihree Stewart came up with an interception at the goal line.
Vista Murrieta scored with 1:18 left in the 4th Quarter on a 14-yard touchdown run by Su’a Cravens and with the Broncos down by 2, they once again went to Su’a, but this time in the air for the 2 point conversion. With two defenders on him, Su’a was unable to bring in the catch and the Huskies indeed held on for the win, 30-28.
