Hawks U9 Boys team and G17 Gold team take First in San Diego Tournaments

After winning the Albion Tournament a couple of weeks ago, the TVSA Hawks BU9 Academy Team under the direction of Coach Carlos Menjivar continued their hard work to win their 2nd tournament this past weekend at the SD United Cup.

According to Menjivar, “The boys have learned that winning is not an individual effort. It requires a dedicated team effort and they need to rely and trust each other as teammates on the field. They have come a long way in developing their skill as individual players and then bringing each person’s strengths together into an improved team.”

Individual skill development to improve the team is stressed by DOC David Halliday and has been referred to as the “Hawks Way.”

The Hawks won the first game 6-0 and the 2nd game was a 10-0 win. The 3rd game was close, but the boys pulled through with a 4-3 win and in the finals the team clenched First place with a 7-2 win over the Albion Premier team.

Just down the road from the SD United cup, the Hawks G17 Gold team, which is coached by David Halliday, won the San Diego United Summer Challenge held at UC San Diego, playing up in age group in the women’s under 18 super group.

Despite a 1-0 loss in their first game, several injuries, pouring rain & slippery field conditions, the Hawks returned with a 3 point victory over SD United 97 Black in their second game and another 3-0 win against Oranje Voetbal U18 team in their third game. The girls would face Oranje again in the finals and an early goal by Ka’ipolani Mortensen secured the championship with a final score of 1-0.
