Great Oak unleashed it’s big bats Tuesday and pounded Golden Bear pitching all afternoon long. The Wolfpack went on to win 10-2 at Temecula Valley which improves the Wolfpack’s record to 8-4 in league play and catapults Great Oak into a tie for first place in the Southwestern League.
The Golden Bears struck first scoring a run in their first at bat to take a 1-0 lead. That lead didn’t last long as the Wolfpack clawed back in the top of the second when Brad Wegman doubled in the first run for Great Oak to tie the game. Wegman later scored and Great Oak took a 2-1 lead and never look back.
Great Oak proceeded to jump all over the Golden Bears as they scored three runs in the third and three more in the fourth. The Wolfpack added more with a run in the fifth and another in the sixth as they ran away with the game. The victory sets up a crucial meeting between the two teams Thursday for the battle for first place.
Sophomore Zack Noll pitched 4 innings, giving up two runs on two hits to pick up the victory for Great Oak. The Golden Bears utilized six pitchers in the contest but it was Devin Castro who was saddled with the loss.
The Wolfpack’s Logan Morrison went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Mitch Hayes scored twice and had three RBIS in the game while Chandler Wagoner doubled and knocked in four runs against Temecula Valley.
Kyle Plantier and Mitch Kemp provided the offense for the Golden Bears with a hit and RBI each.
In other Southwestern league action Murrieta Valley defeated Chaparral 2-0 while Vista Murrieta crushed Murrieta Mesa 10-1.
The Golden Bears will travel to Great Oak today for the showdown for first place against the Wolfpack. Game time is 3:30 pm.
