HS Boys’ Basketball: Four games to go, Rams and Golden Bears top the SWL standings

Playoff basketball is right around the corner and as the action heats up, most of the eyes in the valley are on the all-out fight for the No. 1 spot in the Southwestern league. Going into last week’s matchup Temecula Valley (16-7, 5-1) got the best of the red-hot Murrieta Mesa Rams (19-6, 5-1) in what was an exhilarating game for fans, as the Golden Bears held on for a 76-69 victory.

The win for Temecula Valley was key in what could be a thrilling final game of the season against each other next week, since the win moved the Golden Bears into a tie for first place with Murrieta Mesa. Both teams were back it this week as the second and final round of league games began Friday, Jan. 26. Both TV and Murrieta Mesa got away with close victories going in to the weekend to keep themselves out in front of the race. Murrieta Mesa defeated Chaparral 54-53 and Temecula Valley ousted the Vista Murrieta Broncos 62-60. The Rams are home this week for games against Vista Murrieta (16-7, 2-4) and Great Oak (14-10, 4-2), which is going to be a fun-filled night for fans with their second annual Silent-Seven game. Temecula Valley will also be home to take on Great Oak and Murrieta Valley (7-18, 2-4). Game times are set for 7 p.m.
