Sophomore Jaelyn Brown sank a three, scored six buckets on jumpers and penetration lay-ups, and made six free throws to lead the Vista Murrieta Broncos over the Murrieta Mesa Rams, 43-29, in the Coaches vs Cancer home game on Tuesday night.
The Lady Broncos started out with a 10-5 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Despite Mikayla Green’s three-bucket effort in the second quarter, Brown’s three-point bucket gave Vista Murrieta an 11-8 advantage.
The scrappy Mesa team came out of the locker room battling for boards and managed a 9-9 third quarter, but ran out of gas against the uber-athletic Broncos team.
“They are a very quick, strong, and athletic team,” said Mesa coach Megan Barbour, “We battled well for three quarters. We were undersized, but worked hard all week on getting position. The team’s improvement is because of all the hard work they put in.”
Greens led the Rams with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 blocks.
Vista Murrieta (16-5, 4-0) travels to Chaparral (16-4, 2-2) next Tuesday, January 28th. Murrieta Mesa (12-8, 2-2) travels to Great Oak (15-2, 3-1). Game time is 5:15 for both games.
