The Murrieta Mesa Lady Rams took the lead late in the final game of the Stu Penter Classic to claim victory over Riverside Poly, winning 4-1 Friday, March 3. Murrieta Mesa (7-0) had the lead until Poly knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the sixth inning when freshman Abbey Hoseman drilled an RBI single.
The Lady Rams came through in the top of the seventh when sophomore Kelci Hill doubled to drive in three runs giving Murrieta Mesa some clutch breathing room. Autumn Pease earned the win for Murrieta Mesa going seven innings, allowing one run, nine hits, striking out 12 and walking zero. Paige Peterson took the loss for Poly (4-1) allowing four runs, and seven hits.
Pease, Hill, Breeana Anderson, Karina Romero, Lauren Randle, Alina Hernandez and Zoey Clark each managed one hit to lead the first time tournament winners. Murrieta Mesa was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error as junior Camille Rivera made the most plays through the game with 10.
