Valley News inadvertently left out Chris Jasien from the listing of All-CIF Baseball in the June 13 issue. Jasien, a junior, was named Division 5 First Team All-CIF.
He played left field for the Linfield Christian Lions; he also plays infield. Jasien batted .426 with an on-base percentage of .562. He hit two triples and five doubles. He is credited with 16 RBI’s.
Jasien was named 1st Team All-Ambassador League and was also a scholar-athlete (4.1 GPA). Stanford and Cal Poly Pomona have shown interest in Jasien.
“He is a very deserving player,” said Linfield Baseball Coach Jeff Nichols. “One of the hardest working guys I have coached in 10 years. He has been All-League three years in a row and is third all-time in career batting (.407). He is an ‘old school’ hitter and very selective and disciplined. It wouldn’t surprise me if he hits .500 this coming year. He was a unanimous vote on a team that only went 8-13 this year.”
In other Linfield baseball news, pitcher John Shurance has accepted a full-ride offer to San Diego State to play for Hall of Fame coach Tony Gwynn.
