Normally they battle each other for bragging rights in the City of Menifee, but this past weekend they joined forces for the second year to give back to the sport they compete in.
The girls softball teams from Heritage and Paloma Valley high schools joined with Mt San Jacinto Junior College (MSJC) to put on a softball skills clinic for close to seventy girls. ASA Menifee also held sign-ups at the clinic.
Paloma Valley coach Brianna Wells headed up the clinic held at her school this year. Athletic Director David Drake was instrumental in founding the event last year. Jessica Beaver, assistant softball coach at MSJC, also participated.
Clinics included skills training in hitting, fielding, base running, throwing, and pitching.
“It is important to teach skills at an early level,” said Drake, “and it is an opportunity for the girls to give back to the sport and the community. Many grew up playing ASA here. We hope to grow this event each year.”
