Winning streak ends in 3-1 loss for Storm – Lake Elsinore’s four-game win streak expires courtesy of the Modesto Nuts.

All good things must come to an end, and so it was Thursday night at The Diamond as the Storm saw their four-game win streak expire in a 3-1 defeat courtesy of the Modesto Nuts.

For the first time in five games, the Storm failed to score first. Modesto got to Storm starter Bryan Rodriguez for a lone run in the third on a passed ball to take the early 1-0 lead.

The Storm would answer in the fourth. Corey Adamson lifted a high fly ball to left that carried over the wall for his second home run of the season to tie the game at one.

Despite Adamson’s solo shot, the rest of the Storm offense failed to match its exploits of the previous four games. Modesto pitching limited the Storm to just two more hits while striking out nine.

The Nuts would take the lead for good in the fifth. A one out walk was followed by a single to put runners on the corners. Rodriguez struck out Juan Ciriaco but with the runners in motion an errant throw sailed into center to allow Francisco Sosa to score from third.

Another Nuts run scored in the sixth, and Modesto (4-11) cruised to a 3-1 win to end the longest Storm (7-8) winning streak of the young season.

Game two of the series is set for Friday, April 18. Joe Ross (1-1) will toe the slab for the Storm while Ben Alsup (0-3) will go for the Nuts. First pitch is set for 7:05pm on the second Fireworks Friday of the season.
