Vista Murrieta has one of the most talented rosters in the Southwestern Boys Basketball league. Fast, physical and dangerous. They just need to figure out how to finish. The Broncos let another team off the hook Thursday as they let Great Oak surge ahead in the final period to win 66-53 in front of a packed and noisy Wolf’s Den.
The Wolfpack found the Broncos much tougher than last year’s team. Vista Murrieta traded leads with Great Oak through out the first two periods and led 31-30 at the half. It was pretty much the same in the third period as both teams scored eighteen points as they headed into the final eight minutes.
The game fell apart for the Broncos in the fourth period. The Wolfpack exploded for 18 more points while holding Vista Murrieta to just four. Great Oak’s surge was led by Jeremy Smith and Latrelle Franklin. Smith led all scorers and finished the game with 28 points.
Vista Murrieta’s Spencer Benson who fouled out early in the fourth period scored 16 for the Broncos. Jacob Perry and Austin Beech both scored 11 points against the Wolfpack. Joey Diaz and Dwayne Johnson each added six points for the Broncos.
Vista Murrieta will play MurrietaValley at home next week. The Nighthawks were beaten by Great Oak 55-44 in the league opener and took care of Murrieta Mesa 62-10 last night.
The Wolf’s Den will host Chaparral Tuesday night as Great Oak seeks their third straight league victory. The Pumas are winless in league play having fallen to Murrieta Mesa and TemeculaValley. Game time is 7pm.
