Issue 10, Volume 15.

RIVERSIDE - Jury selection will continue today for the trial of a former Riverside elementary school security guard accused of molesting five female students.

Dennis Edward Lucas, 43, could face more than 40 years in state prison if convicted of five counts of lewd acts on a child under 14 and one count of annoying a minor.

Lucas is free on $50,000 bail.

The first panel of prospective jurors was summoned yesterday to Riverside County Superior Court Judge Gordon Burkhart's courtroom for screening. Another panel is slated to be vetted today. Opening statements could begin Thursday.

2007 after a 10-year-old girl alleged that he had groped her after calling her over to talk with him on the playground of Fremont Elementary School, according to Riverside police.

As the investigation unfolded, four other girls alleged that the 6-foot- 2, 230-pound defendant had also fondled them, police said.

Two of the charges are connected to one victim. None of the girls were identified.

Lucas had been a custodian for the Riverside Unified School District and was later promoted to part-time "campus supervisor" at Fremont, which equated to a security position.

The Moreno Valley resident has since been dismissed.

i knew this guy briefly. im not surprised at this at all. from what i understand he worked around teens alot outside of his job. he was a show promoter and set up all ages shows around the inland empire area. i wouldnt be surprised if more cases pop up later down the road. he always seemed creepy and like he had another agenda on his mind. but, im only speaking from my short interactions with him for a year or soo.

I remember him when I was in elementary , to me he was such a nice guy , he would play with the children at recess & told scary stories at lunch , i was in such shock when I heard this , he never did anything inappropriate with me , but I did like him , he was my favorite security guard , actually everyone's favorite security guard , but hearing this , what he did to those girls is horrible , how can a grown 40 year old man do that to a ten year old girl ? Every little kid trusted him , I let him carry me & swing me around not knowing what he was capable of taking my innocence away , just knowing I was in the arms of a child molester at 8 years old is scary for me.
