Wow i was thier,i seen the ambulance.i was having boat troubles,it was crazy yesterday! I wanna give my respects to the family...
This is a very sad and easily preventable tragedy. According to another news story, everyone was wearing a life jacket. However, as the other three were being rescued, the victim slipped out of his life jacket and disappeared under water. To me, the unanswered questions are: Why did his life jacket slip off? Was it not the right size? Was it not fastened correctly? Was he totally incapable of swimming? I do a lot of boating on Canyon Lake. All non-swimmers must wear a properly fitted and fastened life jacket before getting in my boat. All kids 12 and under must wear a life jacket regardless of swimming ability...even when standing on the dock.
Life jackets? Flotation Devices? What a terrible shame, regardless. God help the family.
Another accounting of the story which we couldn't verify, was that everyone had flotation devices, but the father had given all the best ones to the rest of the family. Not sure if it wasn't the right size or what happened exactly.
God be with the family. |
