TEMECULA – The Board of Trustees of Hillcrest Academy is pleased to announce that Markham B. Campaigne has been selected as the new Head of School for the K-8th grade independent private school.

Campaigne brings exceptional experience as a dynamic administrator to his new position at Hillcrest Academy. His record of service includes seventeen years as Headmaster at one of the top member schools in the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), St. Margaret’s Episcopal School in San Juan Capistrano. While there, Campaigne built a strong faculty-administrative team, tripled the size of the campus to twenty acres, boosted enrollment by 85 percent, raised average SAT scores by 250 points, and increased the annual fund from $80,000 to more than $1 million.

Campaigne’s background in effective leadership began when he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Campaigne also holds a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Missouri and has completed the coursework requirements for an Ed. D. at the University of San Diego.

Since leaving St. Margaret’s, Campaigne has a member of the boards of St. Mary’s School in Aliso Viejo, the Pathway School in Laguna Hills and the Chadwick School in Palos Verdes, as well as The Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs of San Juan Capistrano.

"What a privilege it is to be working with the wonderful faculty and staff at Hillcrest Academy," says Campaigne. "Hillcrest holds dear a strong commitment to academic excellence, a broad, inclusive curriculum, and character development. Advertisement

The well thought out and carefully integrated field trips give the students an expanded view of this country’s history and culture; and the new "One to One" laptop program in the middle school and use of iPad’s in the lower grades will further enhance the learning environment on campus. I look forward to an exciting school year for our students."

Hillcrest’s appointment of a new Head of School followed the announcement that long-time Head, Maureen Manion, had decided to retire from her position to pursue new opportunities in the field of education.

Manion led Hillcrest Academy for the past 15 years, establishing the school’s core programs and curriculum, overseeing the expansion of the school into new classroom and administration facilities, and securing for Hillcrest the only CAIS and WASC dual accreditation in the Temecula Valley. Over the course of her tenure, Manion is credited with enhancing the curriculum which includes a middle school leadership academy, daily French and Spanish language classes, fine and performing arts, and physical education.

Campaigne says, "I will be continuing the established traditions, programs and curriculum that are in place today, while also helping to position Hillcrest for the future. The Hillcrest community has been extremely welcoming; I’m excited to begin the school year."

Hillcrest Academy is a non-profit private school located in Temecula at 29275 Santiago Road. Spaces are still available for enrollment in the fall semester.
