TEMECULA - SHERIFF PRESS RELEASE - On Sunday afternoon, October 6, 2013, officers from the Temecula Police Department responded to the intersection of Rancho California Road and Margarita Road, regarding a major traffic collision with injuries. Upon the officers' arrival, they found a 1998 Dodge truck and a 1998 Ford Contour resting on their wheels in the eastbound lanes of Rancho California Road. The male driver of the Ford sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Further investigation revealed the 1998 Dodge, driven by Angel Lopez, of Temecula, had been traveling westbound on Rancho California and entered the intersection against a red light and struck the Ford as the driver was traveling southbound on Margarita Road. Lopez was transported to a local hospital. Several witnesses were contacted at the scene and provided details that will assist in the investigation.

Lopez was involved in traffic collision at Rancho California Road and Meadows Parkway prior to this major traffic collision. During this collision, Lopez struck a vehicle and was fleeing the scene when he was involved in the collision at Rancho California Road and Margarita Road. At this time of the investigation, officers determined that alcohol contributed to the cause of the collision.

Lopez was arrested for felony driving under the influence of alcohol causing a traffic collision with major injuries, driving under the influence of alcohol and hit and run traffic collision. He was booked into the Southwest Detention Center.

The roadway was closed for more than five hours while members of the Temecula Police Department’s Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team conducted their investigation.

@Paullywog, This has nothing to do with the DRUNK driver being an illegal alien or not, this is something IRRESPONSIBLE peolple do. What good is blamig the Government and the voters goibg to do. Illegals are not the only ones who have caused accidents suh as these, american citizens have also been responsible for these incidents as well come on this article is not for you to whine about how unpleased you are with the democrats, ot how mich you despices illegal aliens. Its about a very tragic that will hopefully make someone think twice about driving drunk.
