AGUANGA  – A brush fire that erupted today near the southwest corner of the San Bernardino National Forest in Aguanga burned roughly four acres until Cal Fire aircraft stopped its advance.
The non-injury blaze was reported shortly after 2 p.m. in the area of Reed Valley Road and Centennial Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the location, but they were preceded by Cal Fire air tankers, whose pilots initiated runs on the brusher prior to ground personnel’s arrival.
The two tankers and a water-dropping helicopter made a series of drops that halted the fire’s forward rate of spread at 3:05 p.m., according to reports from the scene.
No structures were damaged.
Because of the proximity of the fire to the national forest, U.S. Forest Service firefighters deployed to the area to assist county fire personnel in tying up gaps along the fire lines.
Full containment was expected by late afternoon.
It was not immediately clear what might have triggered the fire.
