Small brush fire halted in La Cresta

A small brush fire was stopped from spreading overnight in the La Cresta area near Murrieta, fire officials said Monday morning.

The fire broke out just before 4 a.m. in an area near Via Volcano and Avocado Mesa Road, according to Cal Fire Riverside on Twitter.

Officials said the fire began spreading at a slow rate in “light flashy fuels.” It was stopped at about two acres.

Cal Fire Riverside said around 5 a.m. that it expected firefighters to remain at the scene for another two hours to mop up the remnants of the blaze.
