The fifth annual Bulldog Revival and ABA/AMA IronDog Event was held Friday, March 6, through Sunday, March 8, hosted by Maximum Power Kennels in Aguanga.

Under partly cloudy skies, bully breed dogs participated in the American Bulldog Association and American Molosser Association sanctioned event. Working classes, conformation judging and Iron Dog competition events thrilled and entertained for the three days.

The canine event featured ACAL-ATAN judging. This organization performs all-breed temperament and working tests based off European standard tests designed for dogs of all levels of training.

ABA and AMA registration was held and conformation events performed in the spacious show ring. The ABA is an exclusive all-bully, short-haired Molosser and mastiff breed registry that stresses the registration, pedigree tracking, education and responsible ownership of these breeds worldwide.

The AMA is committed to promoting purebred Molosser breeds and breeding for type and function while upholding the integrity of the registry. “Molosser” is a category of solidly built, large dog breeds descended from the same common ancestor.

Sunday featured the Iron Dog competition. Events included sprints, weight pulling and bite work.

Canines arrived from all over Southern California and even out-of-state for the show.

“On behalf of this year’s fifth annual revival, I would like to thank all our sponsors for supporting this event,” show host Kraig Guay of Maximum Power Kennels said. “The American Bulldog Association, Sabachia Soul Kennel, American Molosser Association, Design by Flora, Dineros Strength, IronDog, Offerman Family Kennel. East Coast K9, Patriot K9 Training and Services LLC, New Eden Kennels, XtremeBulldogs, United States American Bulldog Club, DogSport4U, American Bulldog Towing, Katz Knows Dog, Simply-Incred-A-Bull American Bulldogs, Pretty in Ink Frenchies and Trucha Kennels.”

The Iron Dog series of trials pitted dogs in a series of tests as handlers and canines tackled the challenges thrown at them.

The Iron Dog 3 is a series of three events that anyone can participate in. A dog that competes successfully in all three challenges is eligible to earn an ID3 Title. These contests consist of a sprint race, hardest hitting and weight pull. Dogs may opt out of one or more trials, but it takes placing in all three for the ID3 designation.

There were 105 participants for the weekend, and 81 dogs entered for conformation judging, 21 Iron Dog competitors and four ATAN/ACAL entries.

A whole hog barbecue with all the trimmings was offered to competitors and spectators alike both Saturday and Sunday. The 100-pound pig was raised by Kraig Guay of Maximum Power Kennels and pit roasted supervised by pitmaster Rick Osburn.
