Anza man charged with father’s murder

MURRIETA (CNS) – A 21-year-old Anza man accused of fatally shooting his father at the victim’s home was charged Monday with murder.

Anthony David Holguin was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly gunned down 40-year-old David Jose Holguin in the 39000 block of Cary Road, near Dusty Road.

Along with murder, the defendant is charged with illegal possession of a firearm and sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations.

He’s being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside and is slated to make his initial court appearance this afternoon at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta.

According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Brosche, Holguin allegedly confronted his father inside the older man’s house about noon last Wednesday and, for reasons unclear, pulled a handgun and shot the victim, who died at the scene.

Witnesses called 911, and deputies converged on the property, locating the defendant nearby and taking him into custody without a struggle.

According to court records, Holguin has an unresolved misdemeanor case pending for allegedly carrying a loaded firearm in public without a permit.

He has no documented prior felony convictions.
