PERRIS (CNS) – A 58-year-old motorcyclist was fatally injured just north of Perris when he tumbled from his bike and landed in the path of a car, which ran over him, authorities said today.

Frank Jones of Menifee was killed about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday when he was struck on Interstate 215, between Harley Knox and Van Buren boulevards, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Juan Quintero said Jones was going south on I-215 when he “lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected from it. (The victim) was subsequently struck by a passing motorist (and) sustained fatal injuries as a result of this.”

The driver stopped and waited for CHP officers to arrive.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics pronounced Jones dead at the scene less than 15 minutes later.

The CHP’s investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the agency at 951-637-8000.
