WINCHESTER (CNS) - A motorcyclist was struck and killed by a big rig Wednesday on state Route 79 in Winchester.
The crash happened at about 1:20 p.m. in the northbound direction near Stetson Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The motorcyclist, whose name was not immediately released, hit the back of a vehicle before swerving into the opposing side of the two-lane thoroughfare and into the path of a southbound big rig, the CHP reported.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the trucker escaped injury.
The wreckage blocked both sides of the highway. A Sigalert was issued for the thoroughfare after authorities stuttered the roadway from Stetson Avenue north to state Route 74. It was expected to be lifted by about 4:45 p.m., the CHP said.
