NUEVO (CNS) – A brush fire erupted Tuesday afternoon on a hilllside in Nuevo, scorching about three acres in a half-hour before it was contained.

The non-injury blaze broke out for unknown reasons around 3:15 p.m. in the area of Eureka Street and Water Avenue, about a mile southwest of Lake Perris, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

More than a dozen engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a moderate rate through light vegetation, according to reports from the scene.

The flames did not approach homes in the area, and though crews had to traverse rugged terrain to encircle it, they had the blaze fully contained about 4:15 p.m.
