Temecula City Council candidates will see limits on campaign contributions beginning next year

Donors to city council candidates in Temecula and elsewhere will soon face limits on their campaign contributions. While cities and counties have always been allowed to set their own limits for campaign contributions, most, including Temecula, allowed unlimited campaign contributions to candidates for local offices like city council seats. But in 2019, the California State Legislature enacted Assembly Bill 571, which establishes campaign contribution limits, subject to adjustment every two years by the state Fair Political Practices Commission, for local jurisdictions that have not already enacted their own contribution limits.
