FARMERS BRANCH, Texas — Varsity Brands, the market leader in sport, spirit and achievement, announced that its signature school pride event, the Varsity Brands School Spirit Awards, presented by BSN SPORTS, Varsity Spirit and Herff Jones, has named the winners for the 2023 program on June 8, at the virtual awards show. Vista Murrieta High School is among the winners, making it the third time achieving the honor. The Varsity Brands School Spirit Awards honors the standouts of America’s high schools by recognizing exemplary schools, organizations and individuals that go above and beyond to build school pride, student engagement and community spirit.
On the 20th anniversary of Vista Murrieta High School, the Broncos continue to keep school spirit at the heart of their mission as a school. Every Bronco commits himself or herself to a motto of CLASS: Character, Leadership, Attitude, Scholarship and Service. Within 101 clubs and organizations on campus, Broncos look inward to determine how their passions can serve VMHS. When they see where they can make an impact, they aim to serve. From the Bleacher Creatures at athletic events, to the Link Crew on campus, to community blood drives, to campus-wide efforts of hand making blankets for Project Linus, Bronco students strive to not be an institution; they strive to be an energy, a pulse, a firing electric spark inhabiting every soul on campus. Vista Murrieta High School is not just an educational institution. It is an essential part of its community and the essence of spirit.
“We are honored to receive this prestigious award,” Vista Murrieta Principal Celeste Scallion said. “Our students have worked exceptionally hard to make sure everyone has a seat at the table. This award is amazing for our community, it demonstrates our commitment to having meaningful experiences and activities for all students.”
Varsity Brands released a study revealing the powerful link between school spirit, involvement, achievement and self-confidence. It was found that students with higher levels of spirit perform better academically, are more involved, and feel happier and more connected to their schools and communities. Inspired by these findings, the Varsity Brands School Spirit Awards were created.

A total of $70,000 was awarded across 15 categories, including a $25,000 Grand Prize for America’s Most Spirited High School. America’s Most Spirited High School was determined by an online voting process at varsitybrands.com.
