Boy stabbed near Corona apartment complex

CORONA (CNS) – A boy was stabbed today during a confrontation with a man near a Corona apartment complex, leaving the victim seriously injured and the suspect in custody.

Corona police Sgt. Chad Fountain said the assault happened about 8:30 a.m. adjacent to the Country Hills Apartments at Smith Street and Via De Luna.

According to Fountain, patrol officers were called to the location by witnesses and found the youth with stab wounds. He was taken to Corona Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries of unknown severity.

A short time later, the suspect was located in the area of Via Bernardo and Via Santiago, the sergeant said. After detectives questioned the man, he was was booked into the Corona Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. His name was not immediately released,

The sergeant said the victim and suspect were acquaintances, but there was no word on what triggered the attack.
