MURRIETA (CNS) – A wildfire that erupted Friday west of Murrieta scorched about two acres on a hillside before it was contained with the help of Cal Fire aircraft.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 2:15 p.m. in the area of Avenida Castilla and Avenida La Cresta, in an unincorporated community known as La Cresta, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Two Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter were sent to the location, which borders the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Preserve. The aircraft made a series of runs on the brusher, establishing containment lines that enabled ground crews to hike to the location and begin knocking down the flames.
A landscaper with a tractor also volunteered his services, helping dig a fire break while the aircraft worked overhead. The blaze was largely contained by 3:15 p.m.
