LAKE ELSINORE (CNS) – A sedan plunged over 100 feet down an embankment after skidding off rain-slick Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore Wednesday, but the driver escaped injury.
The crash happened about 1:20 p.m. on southbound I-15, a quarter mile south of Nichols Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver lost control of the car, which plowed through a chain-link fence and went downhill until hitting the top of a retaining wall. No other vehicles were involved.
Riverside County Fire Department crews arrived to find the motorist outside the car. He was checked by paramedics, but apparently did not require medical attention, according to reports from the scene.
A tow truck was called to deploy a heavy-duty winch line to reel the damaged car back up to the freeway.
No freeway lanes were shut down as a result of the crash.
