CHP: Man crashes pickup on Interstate 15, killing his mom

CORONA (CNS) – A 19-year-old man overturned his pickup truck while allegedly speeding on Interstate 15 south of Corona, causing his mother to be fatally injured, authorities said on Wednesday.
Katie Towery, 42, of Hemet died about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after the crash on northbound Interstate 15, just north of Temescal Canyon Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim’s son, Jace Towery of Hemet, was driving his 2004 Toyota Tacoma at an excessive speed when he apparently lost control and veered onto the right shoulder, where the pickup truck flipped and rolled at least twice.
Officer Juan Quintero said Riverside County Fire Department paramedics attempted life-saving treatment on Katie Towery, but she perished at the scene.
Jace Towery suffered moderate to major injuries and was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where he is in serious but stable condition, according to Quintero.
Investigators are seeking witnesses and additional details about the crash, Quintero said.
