LOS ALAMITOS – CIF Southern Section Commissioner of Athletics Rob Wigod announced last week that Citrus Hill High School Athletic Director Rich Shearer has accepted a position as an assistant commissioner of athletics for the CIF-SS, effective July 1.

“I am very pleased to welcome Rich Shearer to the Southern Section team,” Wigod said. “For many years, Rich has been one of our most accomplished athletic directors and brings a variety of leadership experiences to our office, not only at the section level, but at the state level as well. His knowledge and passion for education-based athletics will be valuable assets to our member schools and our entire organization. I am excited to see the contributions he will make as our next assistant commissioner.”

Shearer has served as director of athletics at Citrus Hill since its inception in 2005. Before Citrus Hill, Shearer taught history and was athletic director at Norte Vista High School from 1992 to 2005. Shearer also served as head basketball coach for the Braves earning the Press Enterprise Riverside County Coach of the Year honors in 2000.

Shearer was named Citrus Belt Area Athletic Director of the Year in 2011 and California Coaches Association Athletic Director of the Year this year.

“It is an honor to be selected to the position of assistant commissioner, joining an established team of colleagues who are passionate about education-based athletics, and the critical role it plays in developing young people,” Shearer said. “I look forward to working collaboratively with administrators and coaches on how to always do what is best for our student-athletes.”

Shearer earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree both in history from the University of California Riverside in 1989 and 1991, respectively. Shearer, 51, is married to wife Kellee, and they have three sons, Brett, Jake and Chad.
