CORONA (CNS) – Half of Interstate 15 will be shut down and several lanes on the 91 freeway in Corona will be closed during separate projects this weekend.

According to the Riverside County Transportation Commission, northbound I-15 will be closed at Hidden Valley Parkway from 11 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday while a contractor installs overhead signs that are part of the I-15 Express Lanes Project.

Northbound motorists will be detoured off the freeway at Hidden Valley and then routed immediately back onto the five-lane artery at the same location.

Meantime, on the 91, RCTC crews will be continuing slab repairs Saturday night on both sides of the east-west corridor.

The work is slated to get underway about 10 p.m. Saturday and wrap up about 9 a.m. Sunday. On the westbound side of the freeway, crews will be fixing pavement between McKinley Street and Lincoln Avenue, while on the eastbound side, they will be working between Serfas Club Drive and Lincoln.

Three lanes will be taken out of service on the westbound 91, leaving two regular lanes and two toll lanes available. On the eastbound side, four lanes will be shut down, leaving the fast lane and the two toll lanes open, according to RCTC.

The agency said the work will require closing connector ramps from I-15 to the westbound 91, but detours will be in place, taking motorists through downtown Corona to rejoin the 91 at Lincoln.

The $472 million Interstate 15 Express Lanes Project entails expanding I-15 between the Pomona (60) Freeway in Eastvale and Cajalco Road on the south edge of Corona, covering about 15 miles. Work began in March 2018 and is slated to conclude this fall.
