Enjoy a night of art and culture with the 12th annual Ralph Love Plein Air Competition and a Dia de los Muertos Celebration at First Friday

TEMECULA ─ Residents can begin November by attending an event-filled First Friday Art Off The Walls Friday, Nov. 1, from 6-9 p.m. at The Merc, 42051 Main Street. The evening, presented by Temecula’s Arts and Culture Team, includes an art show, awards ceremony, complimentary refreshments, live entertainment and more.

Guests are invited to attend an artist reception and awards ceremony at The Gallery at The Merc, where over 60 entries from the 12th annual Ralph Plein Air Competition will be showcased. Artists of the competition were given one week to paint their depiction of select Temecula locations, and 21 artists entered the competition. The panel of qualified judges assessed the resulting anonymous art. The awards ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. and the awards include Best of Show; first place; second place and third place. At the reception, guests can view all of the entries, meet artists and learn about the joys and challenges of painting in plein air.

After visiting The Merc, guests are also invited to experience the regularly scheduled art show in conjunction with a Dia de los Muertos celebration in The Lot on Main. This annual Hispanic holiday honors the lives of departed loved ones. Activities in The Lot will observe the festive holiday with inspired art, face painting, a Ballet Folklorico performance, craft stick memorial and samples of traditional food while supplies last.

Visiting Art off the Walls helps support our growing local arts community. These creative community gatherings provide opportunities for local artists to display their fine art and local entertainers to perform for guests and share their talents with Temecula’s residents and visitors.
