A former Temecula Valley High School wrestler pleaded guilty to injuring his girlfriend last week.

Ryan Cosio, 18, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor charge of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, at a felony settlement conference Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Southwest Justice Center in French Valley.

Cosio was arrested June 16 and was originally arraigned on an additional felony charge of false imprisonment.

He was sentenced to 116 days in the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s work-release program, along with 20 hours of community service. He will also have to pay fines and fees totaling more than $1,000 and enroll in a 52-week domestic violence program.

Cosio was given a no-contact order with his now-former girlfriend that will not expire for 10 years.

Cosio was named the Press-Enterprise’s wrestler of the year in March, three months before his arrest.
