Gusty winds expected in Riverside County mountains, Coachella Valley

RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Gusty winds will buffet the Riverside County mountains and the Coachella Valley this morning before temperatures warm up for the middle of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

A wind advisory will last until 8 a.m. today in the Riverside County mountains, the Coachella Valley and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning.

Winds out of the west are expected to be 15-25 mph, with gusts possibly reaching 45 mph in the northern portion of the Coachella Valley.

NWS forecasters warned that the gusty winds could make travel hazardous for high-profile vehicles.

There is a 20% chance of rain in the county mountains and the Riverside metropolitan area this morning, but no rain is expected in the San Gorgonio Pass or the Coachella Valley, forecasters said.

After this morning, conditions are expected to remain dry until a weak storm system brings a slight chance of rain on Friday in the county
mountains and the Riverside metropolitan area.

High temperatures today could reach 65 degrees in Riverside, 60 in the San Gorgonio Pass, 82 in the Coachella Valley, 50 in Idyllwild, 60 in Temecula and 61 in Hemet.

A warming trend is expected to start on Tuesday and continue through Thursday, with temperatures in the Riverside metropolitan area set to reach the mid- to high-70s during that stretch, forecasters said.
