The Heavenly Horse Haven equine rescue will serve bowls of their award-winning chili, festive entertainment, farm tours and the presentation of adoptable horses at their annual Chili Cook-Off Saturday, Nov. 2.

Musical chairs with a live band and potato sack races will top off the day’s fun. There will be a $100 prize for the best chili entered in the cook-off.

Idyllwild’s The Spaceman Trilogy will be providing tunes and entertainment for the event.

Heavenly Horse Haven owner Gina Perrin said, “I love meeting the people that came out these events.”

She shares her love and knowledge of horses with all ranch guests, she said.

Besides chili, fun and games, equine rescue will feature their adoptable horses in hopes of finding them new, loving homes. Many of these animals are acquired by the rescue in poor condition and in need of rehabilitation. Others were owner relinquished in perfect health and in various phases of training. The horses were assessed, vetted and their individual needs met. Additional training is provided if needed. When they are ready, they are offered for adoption to their forever homes.

“It is our mission to help meet the need for a ‘safe haven’ for horses or other farm animals who are at risk, neglected, abused, too expensive to keep, unwanted or otherwise in need of special care,” according to the Heavenly Horse Haven website. “We are a diverse team of donors, supporters and volunteers from all walks of life who have stood up and said, ‘Not on my watch!’ We are united in the belief that ‘I can help save this animal.’”

Besides horses, the ranch is home to an emu, dogs, donkeys, goats, poultry and pigs.

Past events have raised necessary funds to help feed, provide veterinarian services, housing and otherwise care for the recued animals. Perrin said she hoped this year will be just as successful.
