Hiker injured in Cleveland National Forest, rescued by helicopter

Firefighters were rescuing a hiker in a remote area of the Cleveland National Forest west of Lake Elsinore Sunday morning.

Cal Fire Riverside crews, plus a helicopter from the Orange County Fire Authority, responded to a report of “a hiker with a lower extremity injury” around 10:23 a.m., according to a tweet from Riverside County authorities.

The hiker was reportedly in the area of Sitton Peak Truck Trail, which is on the Riverside County side of the forest, south of the Ortega Highway and a few miles southwest of Ortega Falls.

Cal Fire Riverside said on Twitter that the Orange County helicopter was taking the injured hiker to awaiting paramedics.
