Holiday events celebrate the season

The holidays are just around the corner, with family oriented events in Hemet, Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, Temecula, Wildomar and Menifee. Here are a few holiday events happening throughout the month of December:

Hemet/San Jacinto

Dec. 7 – The Hemet Christmas Parade with a Dr. Seuss theme is from 8-3:30 p.m., and at the end of the parade will be Christmas in the Park at Gibbel Park, 2350 W. Latham Ave., which will include food, shopping, games and face painting, including Santa.

Lake Elsinore

Dec. 7 – From 3 to 7 p.m., come experience Winterfest at Downtown Main Street in Lake Elsinore with free admission. The holiday parade will start at 3 p.m., with a tree lighting at Gedimen Square at 6 p.m. During the event there will be live entertainment, crafts, jumpers, sled runs and visits with Santa.

Dec. 14 – Cookies with Santa will take place at Fire Station 97, 41725 Rosetta Canyon Drive in Lake Elsinore. Tickets are $5 per person and aren’t available at the fire station. For event and registration information, call (951) 245-0442. Bring a camera and take a photo with Santa, decorate cookies and drink cocoa alongside making a holiday craft. Children can also bring letters they’ve written for Santa.

Dec. 15 – Breakfast with Santa is from 9 a.m. to noon, Dec. 15, at The Links at Summerly, 29381 Village Parkway, in Lake Elsinore. The meal includes scrambled eggs, sausage, country potatoes and pancakes. Adults are $15.95-plus, children are $10.95-plus and children under 5 eat free with paying adult. Dec. 21 – The 5K Run/Walk and Doggie Dash will begin at 7:30 a.m. and goes until 9 a.m., and will include a prize to be given out to the most creative outfit for one owner and their dog. The event is free and takes place at Levee at Diamond Stadium, 500 Diamond Drive, in Lake Elsinore.

Murrieta

Dec. 7 – The city of Murrieta’s Festival of Trees is from 5-7 p.m. at Town Square Park. There are three steps: first, purchase a $25 tree by Nov. 29 at the Murrieta Senior Center or by going to http://tinyurl.com/festival-of-trees-purchase. Second, purchase decorations and lights for a tree, decorate after 9 a.m. on the day of event, with tree ready by 5 p.m. for viewers. Lastly, trees will be judged and the winner announced at 6:15 p.m. during the event. Decorated trees from the event will be donated to families in need. The event is free to attend.

Dec. 7 – Murrieta’s Hometown Holiday Children’s Parade begins at 5 p.m., starting at Washington/B Street and ends at Town Square Park and is free to attend. The parade is nonmotorized, and they encourage participants to walk, ride a bike, push a stroller or rollerskate or could include helping push or pull a float. Electric golf carts are acceptable. Temecula

Dec. 2 – Christmas Tree Lighting at the Pond, put on by the city of Temecula’s Community Services Department will take place Dec. 2, at the pond, 28250 Ynez Road, in Temecula. Before the countdown, there will be treats, a visit from Santa and a performance by Resonate! Vocal Group, which provides a glee club-style performance.

Dec. 6 – Santa’s Electric Light Parade, 41000 Main Street, Temecula, 92590, will go through Old Town and start at the intersection of Del Rio and Jefferson. There will be school marching bands, floats and food vendors, and the event will happen rain or shine, starting at 7 p.m.

Wildomar

Dec. 14 – Breakfast with Santa will take place from 8-11 a.m. Dec. 14, at Fire Station 61, 32627 Gruwell Street. For more information, visit www.cityofwildomar.org/government/calendar_events.

Menifee

Dec. 7 – Menifee Christmas Tree Lighting is Dec. 7, from 4-8 p.m. at the Mt. San Jacinto College Menifee Campus, 28237 Menifee Road. There will be food and craft vendors, community performances, a snow zone with jumpers, a new light parade and photos with Santa. The event entry is free, and includes a Holiday Bazaar to shop local businesses that will be there.

Dec. 14 – Breakfast with Santa is Dec. 14, at the Kay Ceniceros Senior Center, 29995 Evans Road, in Menifee with three sessions to choose from, starting at 8 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., $7 per person, and free for children under 2 years old. Tickets are presale only, and not available the day of the event. There will be live music, crafts, breakfast and photos with Santa. Sign up now, as space is limited.

Dec. 16 – Santa on Wheels starts Dec. 16 through Dec. 20 from 5-8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Santa will be making special visits to homes in Menifee. Reservations are required, $35 for a 15 minute visit. Reservations start Nov. 4, and space is limited. Dec. 23: The Menorah Ceremony and Carnival, presented by the Chabad of Temecula, will be hosted Dec. 23 at 4 p.m., at Central Park, 30268 Civic Plaza Drive. The night will include jumbo games, latkes and doughnuts, live music and special presentations.
