The Great Oak High School Wolfpack welcomed the Apple Valley High School Sundevils to their house Thursday, May 2, as the opening round of the CIF-SS Division 3 baseball playoffs got underway. It didn’t take long for Great Oak to pull out in front as a 2-run first inning and 3-run second inning put the Wolfpack well ahead of the visiting Sundevils. Senior right-hander Cameron Mabee kept Apple Valley scoreless, allowing only three hits over his five innings on the bump. Junior lefty Sebastian Castro closed the game for Great Oak finishing off a combined complete game shutout with his 2 innings of hitless pitching.

Apple Valley’s Dallas Williams collected two hits on the day, but it would Mabee’s ability to keep the Sundevils guessing that would be their demise. The senior starter had five strikeouts on the day while walking only one batter.

Jonah Sebring led the Wolfpack with three hits on the day while Josh Paino and Luke Jepsen collected two hits and 2 RBIs each. A handful of Great Oak hitters also chipped in with their sticks helping Great Oak take down Apple Valley 11-0 in the opening round of the CIF-SS Division 3 baseball playoffs. The Wolfpack will travel to Long Beach to take on Poly High School in second round action Tuesday, May 7. More CIF-SS baseball playoff scores can be found at www.cifss.org.
