With the end of the regular season in the rear view mirror, this week mark’s the start of the post season for the local boys’ and girls’ high school basketball teams that advanced to the playoffs. On the basketball courts there seemed to be a changing of the guard within some of the local leagues, especially the Southwestern League. The Great Oak boys took the title this year with an undefeated run in league, sporting an overall 23-4 record. Murrieta Mesa found themselves at the top of the standings as well, coming right behind the Wolfpack at 7-3 (18-7 overall).

For the girls, it was also Murrieta Mesa who found themselves out in front, winning their first ever Southwestern League title. In fact, the entire program went undefeated in league, a feat that is absolutely worth mentioning.

Other top boys’ teams from around the valley included Perris (12-0, 22-6; Sunbelt League), Rancho Christian (21-5, Southeastern League) and Citrus Hill (9-1, 19-7; Mountain Pass League). Top girls’ teams included Paloma Valley (13-1, 25-3; Sunbelt League), Hemet (19-8, 9-1; Mountain Pass League) and San Jacinto Valley Academy (10-0, 14-1; South Valley League).
