PERRIS (CNS) – Alcohol or drugs are thought to be a factor in a crash that killed two people, including an 8-year-old child, in Perris, authorities said Tuesday.
The three-vehicle crash occurred Monday about 10 p.m. at the intersection of Ramona Expressway and Perris Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
According to sheriff’s officials, a Mercedes drove through a red light at the intersection and hit a Dodge Durango that was making a turn. The Durango then struck a nearby Honda Accord.
Two people inside the Durango — a 75-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl — were pronounced dead at the scene. An unknown number of other motorists suffered minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital.
The intersection was closed for about six hours for an investigation, which remains ongoing.
Witnesses to the crash were urged to call sheriff’s Deputy Cail at 951-210-1068.
