AGUANGA (CNS) – A 34-year-old man who was killed in a head-on collision near Aguanga that also seriously injured another motorist was a resident of Sioux City, Iowa, authorities reported Monday, Oct. 12.
Janda Khamnoy was at the wheel of a 2000 Honda Accord going east on Highway 371 at roughly 60 mph when the sedan drifted over the double yellow lines just west of Wilson Valley Road about 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Mike Lassig said a 45-year-old Indio man was driving his 2010 GMC Sierra pickup westbound on the highway and encountered the Honda coming directly at him.
“The Honda’s left front collided into the pickup’s left front in a head-on collision,” he said.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the location a short time later and pronounced Khamnoy dead at the scene. The other motorist, whose identity was not disclosed, was taken Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar for treatment of major injuries, Lassig said.
The 371 was partially closed for several hours after the crash, which remains under investigation.
