Man arrested for allegedly crashing into Menifee store while high

MENIFEE (CNS) – A suspected drugged driver was arrested Tuesday for allegedly smashing his vehicle through the front doors of a Menifee store, then going on a rampage inside the outlet, breaking whatever he could find.

Preston Quine of Menifee was booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of driving under the influence of controlled substances, driving on a suspended license and felony vandalism.

According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Staton, about 12:50 a.m., Quine allegedly drove his vehicle into the front entrance of a Walgreens on the corner of Menifee and Newport roads.

Staton said the suspect got out of the car and knocked over or physically broke merchandise.

“The employees in the store … locked themselves inside a backroom,” the sergeant said.

He said patrol deputies arrived within two minutes and stopped Quine, taking him into custody without further incident. There was no explanation for why he allegedly committed the offenses — all of which were captured on store security surveillance video cameras, according to Staton.

No employees or customers were injured.

Quine was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified minor injuries, then transported to jail.

There was no word on the estimated monetary loss stemming from the damage to the business.
