MENIFEE – Mediacom Communications announced the expansion of its Gigabit internet service for residential and business customers in Menifee in Riverside County and in Valley Center and parts of Pauma Valley and San Pasqual in San Diego County.
The Gigabit launch is part of Mediacom’s commitment to deploy new-generation broadband technology in all segments of its nationwide network. Two years ago, Mediacom was the first major U.S. cable company to transform nearly all of its fiber-based network to the DOCSIS 3.1 “Gigasphere” platform. Continued investments in its Southern California systems add more than 20,000 additional homes to the nearly 3 million homes and businesses that can choose to connect to Mediacom’s Gigabit broadband service.
“Our company is committed to providing transformative internet speeds,” Marla Bowen, Mediacom’s director of area operations, said. “This upgrade to gigabit speeds in Menifee and Valley Center occurs at a time when more people at home and at work rely on a growing number of connected devices and data-intensive applications.”
Gigabit internet delivers download speeds at a rate of 1 gigabit-per-second – a rate of speed that is up to 40 times faster than the minimum broadband definition set by the Federal Communications Commission.
Bowen said that Mediacom’s 1 gigabit speeds enable multiple users to surf, stream, download and work online simultaneously. The company also introduced a 500 Mbps speed option in service areas that recently upgraded to gigabit speeds.
Mediacom Communications Corporation is the fifth largest cable operator in the United States and the leading gigabit broadband provider to smaller markets primarily in the Midwest and Southeast. Through its fiber-rich network, Mediacom provides high-speed data, video and phone services to nearly 1.4 million households and businesses across 22 states. The company delivers scalable broadband solutions to commercial and public-sector customers of all sizes through Mediacom Business and sells advertising and production services under the OnMedia brand.
