Menifee to host inaugural 9/11 remembrance ceremony

MENIFEE – Join the community of Menifee as the city remembers the lives lost and commemorate those who made the ultimate sacrifice Sept. 11, 2001. The 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will take place at Central Park, 30268 Civic Plaza Drive, from 6-8 p.m. The evening will include guest speakers, special presentations and visual tributes. This event is free to the public and open for all ages.

“The city has been working diligently to create an event to honor the memory of the lives lost and to educate future generations on the impact of this fateful day in history,” Jonathan Nicks, director of community services, said. “We are honored to present this ceremony to our community and are looking forward to the resident participation that we anticipate.”

Residents can get involved in helping decorate over 1,000 white paper bags which will be displayed throughout the event with the names of those lives lost, including civilians and first responders. Additionally, volunteers are needed to assist in setting up and lighting bags during the ceremony. Veteran’s Resource Committee, Riverside County Cal Fire and Riverside County Sheriff’s Department will support this event.
