Menifee to update development code in effort to implement general plan

MENIFEE – Menifee’s Community Development Department is updating to the city’s development code. The current ordinances guiding development in the city were prepared for Riverside County before incorporation and are being updated to more accurately reflect and properly implement the city’s general plan, adopted in 2013.

“We are in the process of creating Menifee-specific zoning, subdivision and grading ordinances that are more consistent with our general plan,” community development director Cheryl Kitzerow said. “These regulations are designed to be user-friendly to help the city and applicants achieve the vision, goals and objectives set forth by the general plan while establishing clear procedures for the development review process.”

The city council recently approved an amendment to extend the term of services with Michael Baker International, a consultant firm that was awarded a professional services agreement for the completion of the Menifee development code in January 2018. Since that time, city staff has worked closely with the group to prepare the comprehensive updates through a structured process that has included: stakeholder interviews and workshops, development code analysis, planning commission and city council study sessions and workshops, preparation of draft zoning, subdivision and grading ordinances and public hearings.

The development code update is expected to be completed within the upcoming months. For more information on the updates, including how to participate and stay informed of the process, contact the Community Development Department at (951) 672-6777. Information can also be found at
