MENIFEE – The city of Menifee’s Economic Development department and development team efforts were recently recognized by the premier statewide professional economic development organization – California Association for Local Economic Development. Menifee had an initiative and two programs recognized by the leading agency at their annual conference in March in Sacramento for being a gamechanger, the Streamline Menifee initiative; for its collaboration with community organizations, Menifee Manufacturing Day and the program, K.E.E.P. Business Walk, for exemplifying the strong and outstanding efforts and achievements in the field of economic development for 2019.

Streamline Menifee, an initiative introduced in July 2019 and led by the city’s development team that aimed at improving the timing and process of development, while enhancing customer service efforts for residents and customers in the city. Streamline Menifee developed a “one-stop shop” for development projects, bringing all city departments to the front line at the city hall service counter to provide direct services, which reduced processing time, costs to projects and improved communication and workflows for staff. The initiative also developed a new concierge system, online submittal processes, a rapid response team for projects, an ombudsman for businesses, updated development code and a new flat-fee structure to give certainty on projects.

The Menifee Manufacturing Day, a program within the Economic Development Department, is a hosted and impactful event spearheaded by a partnership between the city, Mt. San Jacinto Community College, Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce and California Manufacturing Technology Consulting. The program runs in conjunction with the national day of manufacturing and was introduced in response to the city’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy to raise awareness about the myths of the manufacturing industry and to promote advanced manufacturing careers and needs of the industry to over 100 students in the city. The program offered students an up close and hands-on tour of partner local advanced manufacturers and the opportunity to engage directly with industry experts in the field.

The Menifee K.E.E.P. Business Walk, a program within the Economic Development Department, works with the Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce and the business community in an effort to “Keep Existing Employers Profitable.” The K.E.E.P. program surveys random local businesses in Menifee and helps to touch base and identify the immediate needs of businesses and provide insight on workforce skills, growth projections and the overall state of business in Menifee. The annual report is produced and used in programming efforts for both the Economic Development Department and the chamber of commerce to retain, grow, and enhance local businesses in the city.
