WILDOMAR (CNS) – A 63-year-old motorist was killed Tuesday when his SUV went off of Interstate 15 and overturned onto a city street.
The fatality occurred about 11:15 a.m. at the I-15 and Bundy Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Mike Lassig said the driver was headed south on I-15 in the slow lane when his 2017 Toyota Highlander veered to the right, crossed the shoulder of the freeway and then plunged down an embankment leading to Bundy Canyon.
“The vehicle traveled down the embankment and began to roll over,” Lassig said. “The vehicle rolled over onto Bundy Canyon before coming to a stop in the eastbound traffic lanes.”
No other vehicles were involved.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived within a few minutes and pronounced the man dead at the scene The Wildomar resident’s name was not immediately released.
Lassig said that Bundy Canyon was partially closed while the wreckage was cleared and officers conducted a preliminary investigation. The closure was lifted after several hours.
