RIVERSIDE (CNS) - The mini January heatwave driving the mercury higher throughout Southern California shattered multiple temperature records in Riverside County Friday, Jan. 15. In Riverside, the high topped out at 87 degrees, breaking the previous record of 84 in 2011, according to the National Weather Service. The same peak temp was recorded in San Jacinto, passing the prior record of 83 that was set in 2014, while in the mile-high community of Idyllwild, the high reached 76, besting the prior peak record on this date of 74. In southwest Riverside County, the only record-breaker was in Lake Elsinore, where the thermometer red-lined at 85 -- two degrees higher than the previous record set in 2014.
