The Railroad Canyon Road interchange with Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore will be closed each night this week, city officials said.
As part of improvements to the interchange, on- and off-ramps at Railroad Canyon and I-15 will be closed overnight through Friday, June 19.
Northbound on- and off-ramps will be shut down between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday night through Thursday night, and then between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. on Friday, Lake Elsinore city officials said in announcements on social media. Southbound on- and off-ramps will close between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. on Friday.
Intermittent lane closures for both directions of I-15 in the area can also be expected during those times, city officials said.
The Railroad Canyon interchange project will add auxiliary lanes on I-15, add two new lanes, as well as sidewalks and bike lanes, to Railroad Canyon Road through the interchange and replace the northbound off-ramp with “hook-style” off- and on-ramps that connect to Grape Street. The project is expected to be completed by late 2022 at a cost of about $41 million.
The California Transportation Commission approved $17.9 million in state funds — the final piece of funding needed for the project — back in December, the Riverside County Transportation Commission said at the time.
