Pair suspected of breaking into Menifee storage yard, stealing gas

MENIFEE (CNS) – A convicted felon and another man were arrested Tuesday after they were allegedly caught stealing gas from trucks parked at a Menifee storage facility, where authorities say they may have perpetrated prior burglaries.

Roger Michael Guerra, 43, and Juan Antonio Godinez, 30, both of Perris, were booked into the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of conspiracy, burglary, felony vandalism and possession of burglary tools. Guerra was additionally booked for alleged probation violations.

He was being held without bail, while Godinez was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.

According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Staton, about 1:20 a.m., deputies were alerted to a break-in at the U-Haul storage outlet in the 27800 block of Holland Road, just west of Interstate 215.

Deputies arrived within a few minutes and “located the suspects, their vehicles and several large containers used for gasoline storage,” Staton said.

He said the two men were taken into custody without a struggle.

A witness told investigators that “the subjects and their vehicles (had been) several times at the facility,” the sergeant said.

There was no word on the estimated monetary loss stemming from the alleged burglary.
